Call for submissions: VGMAs Music for Good Award

Formerly known as Music for Development, the Music For Good Award honours musicians using their songs or music videos to address social problems. 

To be eligible, submissions must have been released between 1 January and 31 December 2021. All submissions must be sent via email to info@ghanamusicawards.com.

The submission deadline is 15 April. 

Last year, singer Yaa Yaa won the award with ‘Mmusuo’, a record tackling taboo subjects in Ghanaian society while calling for people to be considerate in their actions toward others. 

This year’s VGMAs are expected to be held in May, with Kuami Eugene and KiDi leading the nominations with 16 and eight nods, respectively, followed by fast-rising star Black Sherif with eight. The musicians are also up for the Artist of the Year category alongside King Promise, Sarkodie and Joe Mettle.

Meanwhile, as part of activities heralding the main VGMAs ceremony this year, organisers kicked off the 2022 VGMA in Schools initiative in St Mary’s Senior High School in Accra last week. The music-in-school platform forms part of efforts by the scheme to bridge the gap between industry and academia, allowing students interested in a career in music an opportunity to dialogue with professionals.

“The aim is to help students in music to start right, point out the role of education in a music career, and expose them to the basics of showbusiness,” the organises said.
