The announcement follows the release of Black Sherif’s hit ‘Kwaku the Traveller’, which has helped the artist become the first Ghanaian artist to reach No 1 on Apple Music Nigeria’s Top 100 chart and enter the streaming platform’s top 10 in South Africa. ‘Kwaku the Traveller’ is currently the fourth most shazamed song in the world.
The African edition of Rap Life Radio is hosted by US presenter Ebro Darden and South African TV personality Luthando ‘LootLove’ Shosha. It features breaking news from the world of African hip hop while spotlighting the latest releases in the genre.
“The Rap Life brand, playlist and radio show is something we hope artists and fans of hip hop all over the world can connect through,” Ebro said about the show. “LootLove stepping in for a special edition, Rap Life Africa, helps us keep building that bridge.”
This month’s episode will see Ebro and LootLove talk about Black Sherif’s latest single, which follows in the footsteps of his previous offerings like ‘First Sermon’ and ‘Second Sermon’, which became the two fastest songs to reach 1 million streams on Boomplay in 2021.
The April edition of Rap Life Africa will also feature tracks by dndSection (Nigeria) and Nasty C (South Africa). The radio show, which serves as a companion to Apple Music’s flagship hip hop playlist Rap Life, is available on demand on Apple Music every month.
Meanwhile, Black Sherif is facing legal action from his former financier and manager Shadrach ‘Snap’ Agyei Owusu for allegedly breaching their business contract. This is after the singer signed a deal with US distribution company and record label EMPIRE. The High Court in Accra is expected to hear the case on 9 May.
