Nigerian musicians get creative grants
Nigeria-based media agency Talku Talku has announced emerging musicians Isah The Prince and Jugo Aces among the first quarter winners of its Talku Talku Creative Grant.
The news follows an open call for applications in March and will see the emerging creatives each receive $1 000 to support their musical projects.
“I feel honoured,” Isah The Prince said about his win. I look forward to using this opportunity to further my creative endeavours.”
Titled New Black Elite, Isah The Prince’s project was created for “curious and open-minded Africans on the continent and in the diaspora with the goal of re-educating the African mind on our true heritage while proposing a blueprint for us to forge ahead with,” its author said. “The project explores themes around colonialism, slavery, patriarchy, feminism, generational wealth and power from an African perspective while identifying the patterns that link them.”
On his part, Jugo Aces revealed that his project, the Jugo Aces music album will “encapsulate my journey through different situations, emotions and moments in my life which I cannot wait to share with the world. It is a time to push the diversity of Nigeria’s talent by being representative of the genres of R&B and soul both within Nigeria and internationally."
“We appreciate all creatives’ efforts for the contest,” Talku Talku said. “Many thanks to the panellists for taking their time to carefully select the winners on merit. We also acknowledge our partners for their unwavering support in making this a success.”
The Talku Talku initiative empowers multidisciplinary creative storytellers who leverage the power of digital media technology to create immersive experiences for various audiences while opening channels for thought, resonance and call to action.
“As a creative company, we are focused on providing solutions that allow creatives and brands to think differently in their market space while delivering compelling results that drive key outcomes,” Talku Talku added.
Rapper and entrepreneur MI Abaga served as ambassador and judge for the grant, which was rolled out in partnership with his record label Incredible Music, the TASCK agency, and digital news company The Newspaper Stand.
