Call for registration: Cover song licensing webinar
The Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) in the US, in partnership with Easy Song Licensing, is calling on interested musicians to register for a free webinar titled Cover Song Licensing in the MMA [Music Modernisation Act] Era on 12 July.
The Q&A session will explore the landscape of cover song licensing since the passing of the act in 2018. The in-depth discussion will feature keynote speakers, including the MLC head of third-party partnerships Dae Bogan and Easy Song’s Aaron Green, among others.
The 60-minute webinar is targeted at artists who want to record and perform cover songs with an intention to build a fanbase. It will aim to educate them about important details such as the constituents of a cover song, potential revenue streams and how to register a cover song accurately, as well as how to properly identify rightsholders and creators of the original works.
The webinar will begin at 10pm CAT. Interested participants can register for the event here.
The MLC is governed by a board of directors comprising songwriters and representatives of music publishers. The organisation was designated by the US Register of Copyrights in July 2019 pursuant to the Music Modernisation Act of 2018. It is responsible for administering the new blanket compulsory license for the use of musical works by digital music services. Its mandate also includes processing and paying out mechanical royalties from streaming in the US.
