Tributes pour in for SA rapper Tumi Tladi
Tributes are pouring in following the passing on of South African hip hop artist Tumi Tladi in the early hours of 10 July. He was 30.
Tladi’s family confirmed his death, whose cause remains unknown. “The family of South African hip hop artist Itumeleng George Tladi today confirm with profound sadness and loss, his untimely passing,” a statement reads. “The Tladi family humbly requests privacy during this period of grieving and asks that you please keep them in your prayers. Details of the funeral will be confirmed at a later stage.”
Just a day before he passed away, Tladi, tweeted about his upcoming EP with DJ Vee SA and appreciated his loved ones. “You only truly appreciate your loved ones when there’s a countdown, the small things don’t matter anymore,” Tladi wrote. “Love like they are leaving tomorrow.”
Since the news of his untimely death filtered in, social media has been abuzz with musicians and music organisations sending condolences.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of hip hop musician, Tumi Tladi, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday, 10 July 2022,” the Southern African Music Rights Organisation wrote. “He will be missed by his friends, family and fans. May he rest in peace.”
DJ Vee SA wrote: “I will never heal from this.”
DJ Zan D wrote: “We had so many plans but I guess the higher power had different plans for you. Tumi Tladi was such a genuine bro. The lights were already on him. Things were moving for him. He was ready to own those stages.”
A talented rapper, Tladi was on the rise after releasing a music video with Nadia Nakai and Mustbedubz for his single ‘Presidential’. He enjoyed his biggest moment in the spotlight with the release of ‘Basadi’ remix featuring Moozlie and Rouge.
