Uganda: Bebe Cool in US to shoot video, record
Ugandan dancehall artist Bebe Cool has flown to Los Angeles to record two music videos with Patrick Elis, the Nigerian director who signed to Akon's music label earlier this year.
The ‘Kabulengane’ hitmaker, who left the country on Tuesday morning, is expected to shoot his latest single ‘My Wife’ in which he features Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy. Bebe Cool will also record with Nigeria's Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua, also known as Seyi Shay.
“The business class and life you achieve will all depend on the day-to-day decisions you make. Make the right ones, not the easy ones. Final destination LA,” Bebe Cool wrote on his Facebook page.
Bebe Cool and Elis have definitely had a fantastic year so far. The former started off 2017 with a successful collaboration with Kenyan band Sauti Sol on the song ‘Mbozi Za Malwa’. He also made his debut on Coke Studio Africa, a music TV series where he recorded a session with American singer Jason Derulo as well as Nigeria’s Falz and Kenya’s Dela.
In March, Elis was unveiled as the official music video director of Konvict Music Africa, a label that is owned by Senegalese-American singer Akon. Akon himself has had a successful year; he was named by Forbes as Africa’s richest musician in May.
Elis has directed videos for top African artists such as Wizkid (‘Show Me the Money’), Eddy Kenzo (‘Soraye’), Tekno (‘Yawa’), Timaya (‘Bang Bang’), Dbanj (‘It’s Not a Lie’) and Tiwa Savage (‘All Over’), as well as American rapper Wale (‘Fine Girl’).
