Non-fungible token (NFT) platform Groovemint has partnered with veteran American DJ and producer Todd Terry and InHouse Records to release his NFT project.

The partnership follows the NFT service’s debut release with Nigerian artist WurlD who is signed to US-Nigerian label Immensum Music.
Groovemint was co-founded by music discovery service SyncFloor CEO Kirt Debique. Groovemint seeks to help artists and labels create and distribute music, and integrate it into web3 experiences, as well as an API for developers looking to hook into other marketplaces, wallets, metaverses and games. The NFT platform focuses on black artists, and allows them to assemble a unique combination of digital, physical and experiential offerings such as exclusive releases, special merchandise, access to concerts, meet and greet events or brand collaborations.
Todd Terry’s project focuses on his Fuzz Box compilation, which was first released as a promo-only vinyl in 2000. His NFT bundle includes a digital compilation of 190 self-composed samples with royalty-free, commercial use rights, as well as other exclusive extras such as a signed, limited-edition copy of the original Fuzz Box vinyl, a download of the Fuzz Box – 2022 NFT Mix and behind-the-scenes footage of its recording, and artwork.
“Todd Terry has been an active participant in the space and is excited about the world of NFTs,” InHouse Records’ managing partner, Bill Klatt, said. “He’s especially drawn to the level of control that Groovemint is giving to artists and labels in building their own launchpad for NFT releases.”
Born in Brooklyn in 1967, Todd Terry is credited for helping define New York's house music during the 1980s. His productions can be described as a varied collection of samples blending the sounds of classic disco, the more introspective Chicago sound pioneered earlier in the decade, and plenty of hip hop attitude and sampling piracy.
For its next NFT release, Groovemint is expected to partner with multi-instrumentalist and producer KR3TURE and MalLabel, which will be made available for purchase between 23 August and 4 September. The upcoming release will provide buyers with the exclusive opportunity to participate in MalLabel's Shapeshifter Remix Contest, where participants will be given access to download Shapeshifter stems and six weeks to remix and submit their song to MalLabel. KR3TURE’s NFT bundle will also include a bonus download of MalLabel’s catalogue of more than 300 royalty-free tracks.
“Artists like Todd Terry and KR3TURE are leaders in the music NFT space,” Debique said. “We are excited to further their venture into Web3 with their upcoming groovemint releases, and build bridges across various NFT marketplaces for the artist, label, and the fan.”
Groovemint says its foremost goal is to simplify the process of creating NFTs for music fans who are not crypto-savvy, with a launchpad for minting music NFTs via social login and credit card, as well as music playback delivered via a Groovemint player.
