Rema’s Calm Down goes diamond in France
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ single became a diamond-certified record in France this week.
The news was revealed on Monday in a tweet by French trade body the National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing (SNEP), which certifies music releases.
“Rema’s track ‘Calm Down’ is a diamond-certified single!” the organisation said. “50 000 000 stream equivalents. Bravo!”
The accomplishment arrives two months after the record went platinum in France with more than 30 million streams, which is equivalent to the sale of 200 000 units.
‘Calm Down’ was released on Mavin Global/Jonzing World. Co-produced by Andre Vibez and London, the track is off Rema’s debut album Rave & Roses, which was released in March. Inspired by its author’s personal experiences, the song follows a couple navigating the beginnings of romance. The video for the song currently boasts more than 151 million YouTube views.
“It started at a party where I saw a girl who stood out from the others, so I felt like shooting my shot,” Rema said. “We spoke and danced, but her friends didn’t let me get any closer, which killed the vibe. Afterwards, when they weren’t there, we stayed in touch and hit it off.”
Last week, Rema shared a remix of ‘Calm Down’ featuring a fresh verse by Selena Gomez. Rema is currently on the road with Rave & Roses. The tour sees him play shows in various American cities including Minneapolis, Chicago, Philadelphia, Silver Spring, New York and Cambridge throughout September.
