Meta launches campaign spotlighting African talent
Meta this week launched its Creators of Tomorrow campaign spotlighting 10 emerging creators in East, Southern and Francophone Africa.
Also rolling out in Europe and the Middle East and expanding to more countries around the world in the coming months, the initiative will see Meta working closely with the selected creators over the next year, helping them to grow their audience and turn their passions into professions.
The talent – picked from the disciplines of music and dance based on their outstanding approaches to video formats, technology, interactive entertainment, media, fashion and film, among others – include Ruth Ronnie (Zambia), Mishaa (Ivory Coast), Saraï D'Hologne (Ivory Coast), Kwambox (Kenya), Crazy Kennar (Kenya) and Nadia Matovu (Uganda).
The rest are Ruvarashe Hapaguti (Zimbabwe), Fatou Jupiter Touré (Senegal), Ngorbatchev Niang (Senegal) and Pamela Mtanga (South Africa).
Meta says African creators, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, have creatively used Meta technologies and apps like Facebook and Instagram to express themselves and tell the African story while increasing the recognition of the cultural contribution of the continent and improving its perception to the world.
“With this campaign, we aim to highlight creators who are innovating through tools such as Reels and short-form video content formats, as well as those who are leveraging and exploring new content formats such as AR/VR,” Meta’s creator partnerships lead for the Middle East, Africa and Turkey, Moon Baz, said.
“We are excited to work closely with these creators and we’re committed to helping them grow their audience, build a business and unlock new possibilities for the future as we build for the metaverse.”
The company says it will be hosting exclusive events across the sub-Saharan region to celebrate the creators of tomorrow, equipping them with tips and resources across Meta technologies
In November, the creators will get the opportunity to attend the EMEA Creator Week at the Tate Britain in London. There, they will be joined by other regional creators at various stages of their careers to collaborate, learn and explore the future of content creation on the Meta platforms.
