French Montana continues with Uganda health drive
French Montana’s love for Uganda has gone beyond local dance group Triplets Ghetto Kids who he featured in his ‘Unforgettable’ video.
The Moroccan-American rapper met with the permanent representative of Uganda to the UN, Dr Adonia Ayebare, on 25 July to discuss how the two could help Ugandans through his partnership with the Global Organisation for Maternal and Child Health (Go-MCH).
“Met with the Ugandan ambassador to discuss how we can work together and improve health for mums and kids,” Montana wrote on his Facebook page.
Montana is looking to find a way to reduce the mortality rates of mothers and children who die during birth as well as those of children under the age of five who lose their lives due to various diseases in Uganda.
Earlier this year, Montana, in partnership with international social action advocacy group Global Citizen, donated $100 000 to Suubi Health Centre in Budondo, which helped the facility to acquire a blood bank, incubators, cribs and maternity supplies. The campaign also saw Canadian artist The Weeknd donate $100 000 in early June.
Montana’s latest partnership and drive will look at improving families’ health and wellbeing through collaborative projects dealing with general healthcare, newborn and maternal survival, nutrition, and education.
Montana is not the only American artist interested in healthcare on the continent. Last year, Madonna met with Kenya's first lady, Margaret Kenyatta, to discuss working with the former’s charity, Beyond Zero, which offers maternal and child health programmes as well as initiatives to combat gender-based violence. The charity also provides mobile clinics to Kenyans living in remote areas.
Earlier this month, Madonna opened a children’s surgery unit in Malawi, the birth country of four of her adopted children.
