Mozambique: Bom Dia Studio to host fundraising festival
Mozambique’s Studio Bom Dia will host a fundraising event dubbed Bom Dia Rising Music Festival in Tofo, Inhambane Province, on 24 and 25 September.
Featuring a diverse line-up of musicians who will all perform for free, the event comes after a fire incident which destroyed the town’s only recording studio in June. The event seeks to bolster the stakeholders' efforts to raise about €50 000 in funds to rebuild the studio.
Studio Bom Dia, situated on the outskirts of Inhambane, is known to be Mozambique´s cultural melting pot and a hub of networking and creativity. More than 30 albums have been recorded by over 100 Mozambican singers and instrumentalists as well as other musicians from across 20 different countries around the world at the facility.
It also functions as a rehearsal space for many established and emerging local artists, renting equipment to locals and outsiders, including video production and editing crew.
The studio has also acted as a valuable resource for international producers visiting Mozambique to work with local talents. Before the fire, artists came here to record and rehearse their songs with local musicians, integrate masters of traditional instruments and sounds, or participate in local workshops to pick up a few techniques.
"We are accepting donations in any form, whether cash, equipment or other support," Studio Bom Dia founder Roland Pickl said.
The studio has become the go-to place for live recordings of projects, boasting high level equipment including high quality analogue elements and a classic Axmann 48-track desk. The floor plan is custom designed to produce succinct acoustic needs boasting a wide collection of rare guitars and other instruments as well as 120 square metres of recording and mastering including live room and voice booths. Another feature which sets the studio apart is the high quality hard coconut wood and natural fibres, which were the main materials used in the diffusion and absorption process. This all gave the studio a unique and warm sound aesthetic.
About €6 000 has been raised through the organisation's Go Fund Me campaign. Interested individuals and organisations can follow the link here for various options to donate.
