Returning for its second edition, the competition aims to boost the careers of budding producers by linking them with established artists. Prior to performing in Dubai, the winner will be mentored by the two DJs and other industry professionals including producers, record label execs as well as marketing and artist managers at a boot camp in Johannesburg over a weekend.
How it works
- To enter the competition, interested producers should submit their top beat.
- Each producer is eligible to make one submission.
- The track must be instrumental only.
- The beat must be submitted in MP3 format, no bigger than 10MB in size and no longer than 60 seconds.
- Shortlisted entrants will then showcase their skills to a panel of judges.
- Only one producer will get the chance to play alongside Major League DJz in Dubai.
- Entrants are encouraged to read the competition rules and T&Cs here before entering the contest.
Eligibility
- The winner will be provided travel and accommodation to Johannesburg for on-trade prize retrieval.
- The winner must have a valid passport or be able to get one (at their own cost).
- The winner must be able to travel within March 2023 and have a passport valid until at least 30 June 2023.
- The winner will be provided travel and accommodation to Dubai for the off-trade prize retrieval.
Producers can enter the competition and submit their beats here before 18 November.
The partnership comes at the dawn of the duo’s recent deal with Atlantic Records in the US, which is home to global megastars such as Cardi B, Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran, among others.
“We are extremely grateful to have been chosen to work on this project,” Major League DJz said. “It gives us a platform to be part of South African music history, enabling us to mould the next best thing in music production. We work with so many producers but we are looking for one that stands out as an individual, one that will give us a unique sound that will either keep us on the dance floor for as long as possible or keep it on repeat in our cars.”
Jerome Adonis, theportfolio manager at Edward Snell & Co, which represents Rémy Martin in South Africa, said: “This competition offers our aspiring artists the opportunity to be recognised and be mentored into seasoned producers. We are very proud that Major League DJz has agreed to partner with us to search for our hidden gems. In line with our brand ethos, we are looking for an authentic sound that pushes boundaries, a sound that is audacious and appealing to a global audience.”
