Call for proposals: 2023 Kucheza Afrika Festival in SA
The South African State Theatre (SAST) is inviting dancers, choreographers and dance companies to submit proposals to participate in the 2023 edition of Kucheza Afrika Festival in Pretoria from 17 to 23 April.
The festival will focus on the three conceptual categories of dance works – main programme, young artists programme, and the newly added Kucheza Afrika competition.
Main programme
Professional contemporary choreographers are invited to apply for a commissioning fee to create and/or present new work at the Kucheza Afrika Festival in 2023. Successful applicants will have their work premiered at Kucheza Afrika Festival at SAST in Pretoria. Local and international collaborations are eligible. The production must be a minimum of 60 minutes.
Young artists programme
The category is designed for local and international young artists that are looking for a platform to showcase their work. SAST will provide free infrastructure plus technical support. The production must be a minimum of 30 minutes.
Kucheza Afrika competition
The competition is designed for South African traditional dance artists and pantsula dance crews/groups to partake in an elimination competition, which will be running during the week of the festival with the winning crew/group announced on the closing of the festival.
Requirements
- A completed application form.
- Budget breakdown.
- Choreographer's biography.
- Video teaser/trailer.
- ID/passport copy of choreographer.
- JPEG images.
Interested applicants should print the application form and checklist form, fill in and submit via email kuchezaproposal@statetheatre.co.za before 6 November.
