Call for applications: Star Quest Botswana

Star Quest Botswana is giving young people the opportunity to display their talent in front of music industry professionals. The proficiency of applicants is not a determining factor, the organisers said. The focus is on those who are serious about developing their talent.

The auditions will be open to a range of genres including pop, R&B, classical and acoustic. The aim, the organisers say, is to create “a dynamic and comprehensive music programme for Botswana that embodies and supports specialised music training and expression”.

Audition process

The auditions have been divided into three groups according to age: preteens (12 and under), mid-teens (13-15) and late teens (16-19). For groups, an average age will be calculated and from there they will be placed into a group accordingly.

The auditions will take place in October at various locations that are yet to be announced. The preliminary shows will then take place in the capital city Gaborone every Saturday in November. The first and second Saturday of December are reserved for the semi-finals. The grand finale takes place on 16 December.

Application requirements

In order to be eligible to take part, applicants must be 19 years old or younger. They can be Batswana or non-Batswana citizens, on condition that they have an excellent grasp on the English language.

Applicants are requested to:

• Submit three popular cover songs with a moderate level of difficulty. Applicants should choose songs that are suitable for their voice and singing style.
• Record a minimum of three audio clips of the songs that will be performed. The recordings must not be mixed and mastered.
• Submit a photo that is at least 2400x3000 pixels.
• Submit a completed application form.

The submission deadline is 28 September.
