Call for applications: Goethe-Institut South Africa cultural societies vacancy
The Goethe-Institut in South Africa is seeking an experienced candidate to manage the support work for the cultural societies in the sub-Saharan Africa region and assist in the Department of Culture and Development.
The successful candidate will be stationed at the Goethe-Institut South Africa in Johannesburg. He or she will start work on 1 December 2022, with a scope of employment of 50% (20 hours per week) for an initial period of one year until 30 November 2023 with the option of extension.
The vacancy is a local position whose remuneration is based on the scheme for local employees of the Goethe-Institut South Africa.
Main area of responsibility:
- Support in the preparation of grant contracts, reallocations during the year and annual reporting.
- Advising cultural societies on relevant administrative regulations and support in ensuring compliance with guidelines for the management of funds (e.g. BHO, An-BestP), including support in the design and implementation of training.
- Support in the checking of proof of funds, inventory lists, with checks of the relevant supporting documentation.
- Support in the preparation and follow-up of evaluations or accreditations, possibly also situation-related visits to local cultural societies in sub-Saharan Africa, e.g. to support audits.
- Support in the standardisation of monitoring processes for cultural societies in the region.
- Controlling of the fund management of the cultural societies of the Goethe-Institut in the region (also during the year).
- Coordination between the cultural societies, supervising regional institute and the headquarters of the Goethe-Institut in Munich.
- Preparation of procurement notes, pre-account assignments and other documentation for expenditures.
- Support in setting up an archive.
- Support with administrative tasks in the Department of Culture and Development.
Requirements:
- Completed commercial training or equivalent knowledge and skills in administration.
- Professional experience in administration or finance desirable.
- Good knowledge of German, good knowledge of spoken and written English; knowledge of French desired. Willingness to improve one’s German language skills with support of language courses.
- Good work organisation and time management, high motivation, punctuality, friendly and professional appearance.
- High resilience, reliability and loyalty, care and accuracy.
- Dedicated and independent work.
- Willingness to familiarise oneself with the structures of the Goethe-Institut (organisation, personnel and financial structures, procurement and contract regulations, company-specific software).
- Communicative and social competence, ability to work in a team.
- Good knowledge of MS Office applications.
- South African work permit.
