Call for auditions: Sauti Academy Kenya
Sauti Academy will be holding auditions for a one-year artist development programme in Nairobi, Kenya, on 26 August.
The programme is designed for singers, poets and rappers who are between the ages of 18 and 25. The artist development initiative was first launched in 2010 by Penya Africa, a company that started off as a record label before upgrading its services to facilitate the development of young artists in Kenya.
Penya Africa’s artist development programmes are designed to nurture independent talent by inspiring creativity and enhancing both musical and business skills.
Training includes:
- Voice technique.
- Performance coaching.
- Songwriting.
- Event organising.
- Music business workshops.
- Confident stage performance.
Audition requirements
Singers should:
- Be aged between 18 and 25 years.
- Memorise two songs in two different languages.
- Be ready to sing live accompanied by a musical instrument of their choice.
Successful candidates will be asked participate in a second round of auditions on 28 August.
These are the possible responses from the judges:
- Welcome to Sauti Academy, where you will be required to pay academy fees of 30 000 Kenyan shillings (Ksh) ($300) per term.
- Join the Raw Talent, which is a three-month preparation programme. Fees vary depending on the option chosen: Ksh 15 000 for group lessons and Ksh 25 000 per term for group and individual lessons.
- Sorry. You didn’t make it this time. You can opt for private classes.
