Call for applications: Electronic music production workshop in Kampala
The Goethe-Zentrum Kampala is calling on aspiring music producers, DJs and musicians to apply for an intensive workshop on electronic music production and recording of traditional instruments. Those who are interested have until 30th August 2017 to submit their application.
The workshop, which is scheduled to run from 6 to 8 September 2017, will be facilitated by the following DJs and producers:
Benjamin Lebrave (Ghana)
The well-established DJ is the CEO of Akwaaba Music, an Accra-based label and agency connecting African artists with global audiences and opportunities.
Michael Dela Gafatchi (Ghana)
He is one of the pioneers of azonto, a Ghanaian genre employing electronic music and dance that reached global audiences in 2012. Gafatchi has intimate knowledge of FL Studio and Cubase, the most widespread music production software in Africa.
Alai K (Kenya)
Alai K is a music producer, musician, songwriter and the creator of Disco Vumbi. He has been part of the Kenyan music industry since 1995, starting out with the hip hop collective Ukoo Flani and afterwards pursuing his solo career as a singer and songwriter.
The two day-workshop’s programme is as follows:
- First session: Alai K will give practical demonstrations and hands-on insight into recording traditional instruments.
- Second session: Participants will be taken through an overview of available modern production tools, such as production software, hardware as well as the main techniques used in production. They will then explore ways on how to use machines to express originality and depth.
How to apply
Music producers, DJs and musicians intending to apply are asked to send a one- or two-page letter of motivation including a CV and a short summary of their experience in the field of deejaying and music production to cultural@goethezentrumkampala.org.
