Burna Boy hit named in UK's top music videos of 2022
Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’ has made YouTube’s Top 10 official music videos that received the most views in the UK in 2022.
The only African submission on the list, the record came in at No. 8, and was named alongside offerings from the likes of Harry Styles, Dave, Bad Boy Chiller Crew and Ardee.
‘Last Last’ was released on 13 May and is taken from the Afrobeats star’s sixth album Love, Damini. It samples Toni Braxton’s 2000 classic ‘He Wasn’t Man Enough’, and currently boasts more than 127 million views on the video sharing and social media platform.
YouTube Music says the videos underline its “huge influence on pop culture,” while demonstrating how collaborations are driving consumption, as well as a reflection of the increase in popularity of samples.
“This shows just how much demand there is for British music,” Jamie Njoku-Goodwin, who heads UK Music, the collective voice of the UK music industry, said. “We are a global superpower when it comes to music. It’s all the more reason we should support and champion this sector, and work to make the UK the best place in the world to create, consume and enjoy music.”
Burna Boy’s latest accolade arrives on the heels of the release of Spotify’s Wrapped report spotlighting the top Nigerian artists and songs of 2022, which saw the singer round up the year as the country’s biggest artist.
