Uganda's Bebe Cool assists ill producer
Ugandan dancehall artist Bebe Cool has donated $1400 to Danz Kumapeesa’s family. The donation is a contribution towards settling the producer's medical bill which stands at $5 300.
Bebe Cool, fresh from the US where he shot new videos with renowned director Patrick Ellis, visited the bedridden producer at Nsambya Hospital where he has been admitted for more than two months.
Bebe Cool called upon fellow musicians Jose Chameleone and newly elected member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi, who is popularly known as Bobi Wine, to assist Kumapeesa. Ugandan tycoon Sk Mbuga was among the first to follow Bebe Cool and donated just over $800.
“I am calling upon my following Ugandan musicians to take a stand and pay these bills for this fellow Ugandan producer and youthful soul," Bebe Cool said. "Ugandans have supported us for long and we have made our lives better through their support.
"I know you have done this before but let us lead as examples here because even after paying this bill he needs more financial support for the next two years and other brothers and sisters in the industry will come in then. But we will still appreciate whoever brings in a significant amount at this moment so that Danz can leave the hospital to avoid more bills piling.”
Kumapeesa, who is a producer at Jah Live Films, was attacked two months ago at his home in Kampala by yet to be identified assailants. Though the police are yet to conclude investigations, three people were arrested at Nsambya Hospital in June under the suspicion that they had sneaked poisoned food into Kumapeesa’s room. A month later, Ugandan events host Andrew Kyamagero organised a carwash fundraiser which raised about $2 100.
Considered one of the fastest rising Ugandan music producers, Kumapeesa, 23, has worked with renowned Ugandan musicians. He worked on the Bebe Cool single ‘Mbozi Za Malwa’, which features Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol.
Bebe Cool is well known for his charitable work throughout the years. At the start of this month, he pledged to pay for the operation of a primary school pupil with cutis verticis gyrata, a medical condition usually associated with thickening of the scalp.
