NFT platform Loop launches in Africa
NFT platform Loop has launched in Africa and announced its first local talent, South African duo Jay Em Band, whose track, ‘Bust Your Windows’ went viral on sharing platform Datafilehost.
Loop is a next-generation experience platform that transforms musicians and singers into Web3 superstars by helping them create digital identities and produce digital assets. Loop also helps artists to create their own Web3 communities using Twitter, Spaces and Discord.
Loop says the move highlights its ability to transition artists seamlessly between the physical and virtual worlds.
Jay Em comprises brothers Waven and Ruwayne and their music is rooted in funk, soul, hip hop and downtempo. They have collaborated with notable names including J'Something, Ziyon, Thandi Phoenix, Lee Cole, Nifty Sax and Fifi Rong.
A total of 1 000 unique audio NFTs will be created and launched for Loop’s project with Jay Em. These will include an EP containing five music tracks, each accompanied by a unique digital artwork. They will also provide shared ownership of the copyright to the music and a percentage of any royalties or other income derived from licensing the tracks.
NFT owners will stand a chance to win a pair of Jay Em’s favourite kicks signed by all of the artists who worked on the EP, including J’Something, Ziyon, Thandi Phoenix, Lee Cole, Nifty Sax and Fifi Rong.
“How we access and consume music is evolving rapidly, and the Loop-Jay Em NFT project is going to change how we do that dramatically,” Loop technical officer Andreas Kyriacou said. “The objective of the project is to draw attention to and popularise what is essentially a new asset class in the field of music, in which the best of contemporary music meets digital art.”
“It’s a wicked combination of emerging platform capabilities and a new way of trading,” Jay Em said of the project, which brings together the decentralised power of Web3 and NFTs, reimagining the way music lovers experience and engage with the artists and tracks they love the best.
