RADHI CHAWALY
Bio
Born in Boussalem, Tunisia, Radhi Chawaly had a passion for music from a young age. He was determined to make it his profession, and after obtaining his baccalaureate, he decided to pursue further studies in music at the Higher Institute of Music of Tunis. During his time there, he made connections with experienced musicians and began creating music of his own through a unique style of blending "wah wah vibration" and "funny souls". His music garnered recognition from high-caliber musicians, and in 2013, Radhi launched a musical collaboration with Houwaida Hadfi which was produced by Olof Dreijer of the acclaimed Swedish electronic duo "The Knife". They were invited to perform at the Botnik Clandestino Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Sodra Teatern in Stockholm. In 2021, they released an album with Phantasy Sound Records, a UK-based music label, titled "Fleuves de l'Ame".
In 2016, Radhi and the talented singer and guitarist Daly Gana moved to Beirut to experience the alternative music scene in Lebanon and pursue their careers as professional musicians. With their newfound knowledge, the duo toured around the world, playing gigs in Mauritius, Jordan, and the Dominican Republic. They shared their unique blend of music, and it resonated with the audiences they encountered. After two years of traveling, Radhi returned to Tunisia and set out to create the ALLCHESTRA, a symphony orchestra that performs rock/metal classics. He pulled from talent from the ISMT, as well as Tunisian and international vocalists, and provided an opportunity for the original pioneers of the Rock scene in Tunisia.
In 2020, Radhi began work on his debut album, HIDE AND SEEK, which draws inspiration from Zen Buddhism and the game of "hide and seek" that marked his childhood. He has spent his life crafting a unique sound, which combines Celtic music, rock, jazz, and electronic music in a way that expresses the existential states of being. The first performance of HIDE AND SEEK took place at the 8th edition of the Carthage Music Days on January 23, 2023, at the Rio Cinema Theater. It was a magical experience to see the melding of Scottish musician Anthony Collins, playing the bagpipe, and Amine El Ayedi, a virtuoso of Tunisian Mezwed, on stage together for the first time. The audience was amazed and captivated by the performance, and it is sure to remain in the minds and history of those in attendance for many years to come.
