The Gold Rhino
Mzansi Ballet is proud to announce the staging of The Gold Rhino of Mapungubwe Ballet in association with the South African State Theatre in Pretoria. The ballet is a multi-faceted celebration of history and heritage, commissioned by The South African International Ballet Competition (SAIBC).
The world premiere opens on the 26th of April at the State Theatre. With dancers from South Africa and international dancers from Cuba, China, and South Korea, supported by the Gauteng Chamber Orchestra and the South African State Theatre Youth Choir. Directed and Produced by Dirk Badenhorst

This multi-faceted celebration of history and heritage features three compositions from the Grammy-nominated album Pangaea’ written by Wouter Kellerman and David Arkenstone.
Celebrating a pre-colonial South Africa and Africa this story follows a young Jerry van Grean as he and two friends discover the historically significant gold rhino. Upon discovery, the spirit of a princess from Mapungubwe appears to him and leads him down a road of discovery of an ancient civilization at the peak of its success.
