Namibia: Shishani to play NUTS gig on 28 April
Namibian-Dutch musician Shishani will perform at this year’s second Night Under the Stars (NUTS) concert at Goethe-Institut in Windhoek, Namibia, on 28 April.
Established in 2014, NUTS is a platform created by Goethe-Institut Namibia, for local and international musicians to showcase and promote their work.
Shishani will play after German artists Banu Tülü and Miriam Koch, who kick started this year’s concert series in January. She will perform as an alumna having been the first artist to grace NUTS platform a decade ago.
“This concert feels like a homecoming,” Shishani said. “In the meanwhile, I’ve explored various genres, developed lots of music, much of which is still unknown to audiences here.
“During this concert, I want to play the repertoire that got my career started, revisiting my first record, the Windhoek EP, and also want to share new music with some wonderful musicians onstage. It’s lovely to be at NUTS again, after playing the first ever edition a decade ago.”
Shishani has Namibian and Belgian roots and grew up mainly in the Netherlands. She is known for her strong singing, guitar skills and composing ability, and has collaborated with stage actors, dancers and spoken word artists. She has a background in anthropology and musicology, enabling her to focus on socially engaged topics in her activism through ARTNAM and the Cinnamon Project.
She has won various awards and nominations, including the Amsterdam Prize for the Arts in 2020.
