Canis takes on TuneCore and DistroKid with SoundShare
American music tech company Canis Major Digital has announced the launch of SoundShare, a distribution platform for independent artists globally.
The new platform adds to products and services developed by the firm to help creators navigate the industry. SoundShare is expected to give artists an alternative to options like Tunecore and DistroKid in getting their works to major streaming platforms easily and affordably.
For $9.99, artists can distribute a single to over 120 streaming services, including popular platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and TikTok, while keeping 100% ownership of their music. Artists can also tailor their experience based on their specific release needs by opting for various add-ons available.
By comparison, TuneCore offers unlimited pricing plans, ranging from free for the ‘New Artist’ plan, $14.99 for ‘Rising Artist’, $29.99 for ‘Breakout Artist’ to $49.99 per year for the ‘Professional’ plan. DistroKid, on the other hand, offers unlimited releases for $19.99 per year, with additional free and affordable services.
“Our mission is to democratise the music industry and provide independent artists with the tools they need to succeed,” Canis co-founder Rickey Lane said, adding that the innovation will enable artists to “take control of their careers, reach wider audiences, and maximise their creative potential.”
Canis says its new platform’s user-friendly interface, extensive distribution network and affordable pricing puts it in a great position to empower artists, amplify their reach, and transform the way independent music is distributed.
Canis has distributed projects for Grammy-nominated sisters Arin Jackson and Alexis Jones, DeadDogs and sponsored independent artist events at A3C Conference and One Musicfest in the US.
