Zambian artist Yo Maps to hold Fill Up Heroes Stadium concert on 27 May
Zambian musician Yo Maps has announced that a portion of the proceeds from his forthcoming Fill Up Heroes Stadium concert in Lusaka will be devoted to the establishment of a music school.
The music facility, says the artist, will provide aspiring artists with the necessary resources and education to thrive in the industry while empowering fellow creatives to contribute to the growth and development of Zambia’s music community.
The show, slated for 27 May, is also in support of the singer's sophomore studio album Try Again.
“Zambian music is doing big things this year,” Yo Maps said in the build-up to the event, expressing his excitement and gratitude towards his devoted fans for their unwavering support, which he says has been instrumental in boosting his confidence and propelling his career.
At 28, the award-winning act born Elton Mulenga, is widely considered among the biggest Zambian artists today. He is behind bestselling collections like Komando and Life Yanga. He is also popular for hits like ‘Why’ and ‘Mr Romantic’, which emerged as Boomplay’s most streamed Zambian song of 2022.
This achievement catapulted him into the DSP’s Golden Club, an exclusive recognition for artists who exceed 100 million streams, making him the first local artist to receive the accolade. Earlier this year, he also appeared in a playlist by US Vice-President Kamala Harris, as part of her tour of a number of African countries.
Opened in 2014, the Heroes Stadium boasts a seating capacity of 60 000. The concert seeks to position Yo Maps as the country’s first contemporary act to achieve this feat ash he follows in the footsteps of South African rapper Cassper Nyovest who gained global recognition for filling up stadiums in his home country, starting with the Orlando Stadium in 2016.
