Call for applications: Fak’ugesi Festival and Digital Lab Africa project manager

The role of the project manager – creative industries is integral to the success of the annual Fak'ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival. The successful candidate will receive a fixed-term one-year contract reporting to the creative director. The Fak’ugesi Festival and DLA event serve as a springboard for African talent in the multimedia creative sector to realise success with the support of leading French and sub-Saharan African studios, producers, broadcasters and distributors.
Fak’ugesi and DLA create an inclusive and valuable connection for participants through:
- Pitching forums.
 - Panels and discussions.
 - Residencies and labs in partnership with other festivals/events.
 - Showcasing and access to the market.
 - Business-to-business meetings.
 - Supportive digital community
 
The project manager will be responsible for planning and overseeing related projects to ensure they are completed in a timely manner and within budget.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the role will include but not be limited to:
Project management
- Support the creative director in developing and implementing the departmental strategy.
 - Organise and facilitate the Digital Lab Africa (Fak’ugesi and DLA) incubation process.
 - Manage the recruitment and selection of participants.
 - Coordinate with the creative director and head of department to ensure collaboration with other relevant units within Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct.
 - Produce all content related to Fak’ugesi and DLA programming for distribution purposes.
 - Determine and define project scope and objectives.
 - Predict resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner.
 - Track project costs in order to meet budget.
 - Develop and manage detailed project schedules and work plans.
 - Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments and progress.
 - Utilise industry best practices, techniques and standards throughout the entire project execution.
 - Monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.
 - Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement
 
Event management
- Coordinate Fak’ugesi and DLA related events i.e. Fak’ugesi and DLA kick-off, co-curate the residencies and events working along the Tshimologong Precinct’s events team.
 - Assist the creative director with the coordination of industry events in France and sub-Saharan African countries.
 
Communication
- Coordinate and input on the marketing and communications roll-out for the Fak’ugesi and DLA.
 - Coordinate the Fak’ugesi and DLA communication aspects i.e. marketing campaigns, community management, press relations and public relations across all platforms i.e. online and working along the Tshimologong Precinct’s marketing team.
 - Input on all social media and website design and activations.
 
Administration
- Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables.
 - Oversee and monitor the Fak’ugesi and DLA administration i.e. contracts and agreements, invoices, reports and budget in coordination with the Tshimologong Precinct’s legal and finance process.
 - Coordinate all the travel logistics.
 - Compile reports for all participants, mentors, funders and partners.
 - Monitor finance spending and feed data to the creative director and head of the department.
 - Support creative director in coordinating the Fak’ugesi steering committee.
 
Other
- Support creative director in managing stakeholder relationships.
 - Engage in industry-related activities/events.
 
Requirements
- The applicant must have the right to work in South Africa to apply for this position.
 - Experience in the cultural industries.
 
Qualifications
- A minimum of a diploma, degree, or project management qualification is required.
