Burna Boy crosses 1 billion streams on Audiomack
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy has become the first African act to cross 1 billion streams on Audiomack.
The news, which was confirmed by the DSP today, arrives less than three years after the company presented Burna Boy with a plaque for surpassing 300 million streams on its platform.
Audiomack, which currently reaches more than 25 million monthly users, says that the milestone demonstrates its platform’s power and reach in connecting artists with a global audience.
“I am incredibly grateful and humbled,” Burna Boy said about the new feat. “Much love to everyone who has streamed my music and continues to support me. You all are the true MVPs.”
“We have been avid supporters of Burna Boy since the early stages of his career,” Audiomack senior vice president of marketing and brand strategy Jason Johnson said. “We are incredibly proud to be a part of his journey not just in amplifying his music but in supporting his growth as an artist.”
Burna Boy also ranks among the most successful African acts on rival DSPs Boomplay and Spotify. His recent performances have attracted large audiences, including a concert at the London Stadium where he performed for over 60 000 fans, as well as a performance at the 2023 UEFA Champions League final in Turkey, which was witnessed by 74 000 spectators.
His two most recent albums, 2020’s Twice as Tall and 2022’s Love, Damini, have both garnered over 300 million streams on Audiomack, with the latter also winning a Grammy for Best World Music Album, making him the first Nigerian artist to receive that accolade.
