Call for applications: International Composers Festival 2018
The Mizzou New Music Initiative is calling on all music composers around the world to apply for the eighth edition of the annual Mizzou International Composers Festival at the University of Missouri in the US from 23 to 28 July 2018.
The deadline for applications is 17 November 2017.
Only eight composers from around the world will be selected through a portfolio application process to compose a work that will be performed by internationally acclaimed ensemble Alarm Will Sound. Selected composers will participate in discussions and master classes with composers Alex Mincek and Chen Yi. The applicants will also take part in workshops with Alarm Will Sound and receive a professional live recording of the premiere performance of their work.
Applicants who are selected as resident participants for the festival are expected to compose the complete instrumentation for an eight-minute piece. Each selected resident composer must submit a finished preliminary score before 16 April 2018 for review by Alarm Will Sound as well as two professionally prepared scores. Parts of the final work will be due by 7 May 2018.
Due to rehearsal/technical demands, the organisers will not be able to programme works that include electronics. Festival tuition, room and board for each selected composer will be provided by the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation. Selected composers will need to pay for transportation to and from Columbia, Missouri.
