Kenya: KAMP reinstates Angela Ndambuki as chairperson
The Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP) has announced the reinstatement of Angela Ndambuki as board chairperson. The collective management organisation (CMO) made the decision during a special meeting of the board of directors on 22 June.
Ndambuki, who was elected as the first-ever female chairperson of the board in January, only served for three months before she was ousted by board member Faith Kithele during unspecified infighting that apparently rocked the CMO. KAMP did not share details of the infighting at the time it was taking place, with Music In Africa only learning about the development recently.
“This decision reflects the board’s recognition of Ndambuki’s outstanding leadership qualities, dedication and remarkable achievements in the music industry,” KAMP said.
“Her wealth of experience, strategic vision and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the music industry have been widely recognised and celebrated.”
Ndambuki is a seasoned professional with an extensive background in the music industry. Under her short stint as chairperson from January to March, she oversaw the renewal of the CMO’s licence by industry regulator the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) and increased royalty collection, with 50% of collected revenue set aside for distribution to KAMP members, the CMO said.
She also led a benchmarking trip to South Africa, which culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between KAMP and the South African Music Performance Rights Association.
Also during her initial, short-lived tenure as chairperson, Ndambuki successfully spearheaded several transformative initiatives and advocacy campaigns that impacted the music landscape in Kenya.
In addition, as the regional director of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) in sub-Saharan Africa, she has made contributions to the music industry beyond Kenya’s borders, championing for the rights of music producers and artists throughout the region.
According to KAMP, her efforts have resulted in increased collaboration, improved copyright enforcement measures and the facilitation of cross-border partnerships aimed at propelling the African music industry.
“The entire board of directors and management team congratulates Ndambuki on her reinstatement as the board chairperson and is confident she will herald KAMP into a new era of growth, prosperity and increased recognition for the music industry in Kenya.
“Her expertise, leadership and passion for the industry make her the ideal candidate to guide KAMP into a future of growth and success,” KAMP said.
