Stonebwoy surpasses 100 million streams on Boomplay
Ghanaian singer Stonebwoy has joined Boomplay’s Golden Club after surpassing 100 million streams on the platform.
The achievement comes on the heels of the arrival of his latest album 5th Dimension. The album released in April has already accumulated over 20 million streams on Boomplay.
The artist joins Shatta Wale, Black Sherif, Sarkodie and Camidoh as Ghanaian artists who have chalked this milestone. Other African acts in the class include Nigeria’s Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido and Fireboy DML, as well as Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz and Rayvanny.
Boomplay boasts more than 95 million monthly active users, with presence in key markets including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon.
Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla, was the first major artist to join Boomplay when the company launched in Ghana in 2018, and for the first three years was the most streamed artist on the platform. The musician, who fuses Afro-pop, dancehall and reggae, has remained one of Ghana’s leading names in music since 2012.
In December last year, Stonebwoy was honoured by rival DSP Audiomack after he became the first Ghanaian artist to surpass over 100 million streams on the platform.
Meanwhile, Stonebwoy is set to take his new album on the road in North America starting 15 July. The eight-city tour commences in Duluth, Minnesota, at the Bayfront Reggae and World Music Festival and concludes at the Afro Nation Festival in Detroit, Michigan, on 20 August.
“I’m thrilled to bring my music and the energy of the 5th Dimension album to my fans in North America,” Stonebwoy said. “This tour is a chance to connect with them on a deeper level and share the incredible experience we’ve created with this new album.”
