New Burna Boy album I Told Them set for release on 24 August
Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Burna Boy has announced that his new album I Told Them will be released on 24 August via Spaceship/Atlantic.
The project, his seventh studio album, follows 2022’s Love, Damini, which birthed global hits like ‘Last Last’ and ‘It’s Plenty’.
The 15-tracker has been heralded by three singles, namely ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ with US rapper 21 Savage as well as ‘Big 7’ and ‘Talibans’ with Jamaican singer Byron Messia. Fellow Nigerian artist Seyi Vibez, UK rapper Dave and US hip hop star J. Cole are the album’s other guests.
Burna Boy’s new album arrives amid a prolific run of releases (the upcoming collection is his fifth in six years) and a rigorous tour regimen that saw him sell out the 60 000-capacity London Stadium in June.
“Listening to the album now, it just sounds like a battle,” Burna Boy’s A&R executive, Matthew ‘Baus’ Adesuyan, told The Los Angeles Times earlier this month. “Especially with all the kung-fu samples from Wu-Tang Clan and Shaolin, it sounds like we’re going to war. That’s his energy now.”
