Open call: Grants Project Officer for Sound Connects Fund
Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg seeks to appoint a Grants Project Officer for up to six (6) months to start working as soon as possible.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) up until end of the Sound Connects Fund in April 2024. The salary is based on the applicable remuneration scheme of Goethe-Institut South Africa.
Scope of work
The Grants Project Officer will work with the project team to implement the EU-funded project – a joint initiative by the Music In Africa Foundation and Goethe-Institut aiming to support creatives in Southern Africa with regard to the quality of their products as well as access to markets and finance. The multifaceted initiative is aimed at developing the creative sector in Southern Africa based on the theme of ‘sound’. The action will achieve this through a programme of grant funding to cultural and creative actors.
The Grants Project Officer ensures an adequate implementation of the following main tasks:
- Assist in the monitoring of grants in the visual arts sector.
- Work and communicate with local partners/grant recipients.
- Assist in quality control processes.
- Participation in implementing monitoring and evaluation (MEAL) activities and events.
- Assist in grant management and contribute to reporting processes (financial and narrative).
- Collaborate with project administrators to ensure adherence to set control systems, including documentation and filling processes.
- Support administration and contracting processes.
- Conceptualisation and implementation of relevant visibility strategy.
Requirements
- Educated to degree level or higher.
- Solid track record of project management (minimum six years) in the creative industries (visual arts desirable).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (Portuguese is advantageous).
- Strong knowledge of the visual arts scene in Southern Africa.
- Agility to work closely with the other project team members.
- Experience working on big-scale arts programmes.
- Experience in administration, especially of cultural projects.
- Experience in research and benchmarking.
- Highly proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- In-depth understanding of operational characteristics, services and activities of arts development projects.
- Ability to work independently and ability to travel.
- Permission to work in South Africa.
