Ghana to honour music veterans
Five veteran Ghanaian musicians will be honoured at the Presidential Grand Ball, an event organized by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA). The event will take place on 29 December at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra.
The five artists—C. K Mann, Nana Ampadu, Jewel Ackah, J.A Adofo and A.B Crentsil—will receive GHC 10 000 ($2 200) each and a plaque. Although the event is for these set of artists, some individuals and institutions will alo be honoured with the Music Pillar Award.
These include MTN; Oscar Doe of Eurocar Rentals; Theresa Ayoade of Charterhouse; former chairman of the National Commission on Culture Ebo Hawkson and the former CEO of the Ghana Forestry Commission Samuel Afari-Dartey. Afari-Dartey is outgoing chairman of the Grand Ball Board.
Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee of MUSIGA has announced a reconstituted board for the Presidential Grand Ball.
In a statement, the MUSIGA President Bice Osei Kuffour said, a new board will "infuse fresh ideas and energy into the planning of the Presidential Grand Ball". The Coordinator of the Presidential Grand Ball Georgina Bimpong praised Afari-Dartey's work as chairman "for the exemplary leadership he provided for the board over the years." Bimpong expressed happiness at the inclusion of the new members and assured patrons of an even more prestigious and exciting event this year.
The Presidential Grand Ball is an initiative of MUSIGA in support of the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF) and other projects of the Union. The event brings together leaders of society, captains of industry and members of the diplomatic corp for an evening of quality entertainment and networking.
Performers at the event have included the late Paapa Yankson, Bob Pinodo, Nana Kwame Ampadu, Osei Vasco, Becca, Bisa K Dei and others. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to attend the occasion.
