HiPipo Awards launch hall of fame
The HiPipo Music Awards have launched a Hall of Fame to celebrate Ugandan music that has made an impact in the country over the years. HiPipo will enshrine some of the classic songs in the Hall of Fame during the upcoming sixth edition of the awards that’ll be held in March 2018.
Music and artists that have contributed to the country’s socio-cultural heritage will be honoured during the event.
In the coming years, the Hall of Fame hopes to include music from all genres that is older than 15 years. The songs that will be enshrined in 2018 must have been produced before 2001, and fans will be given a two-month period to share their thoughts on the tracks that they nominate.
HiPipo’s Music Assembly, which is composed of media personalities, select previous winners and nominees, will also vote for the songs. While making the announcement on 5 December, HiPipo Music Awards’ CEO, Innocent Kawooya, stated that the Hall of Fame recordings will be featured at the Arts Museum. He revealed that they will also push to have them featured on different platforms such as TV, radio, airplanes flying within the country and buses. Fans have been requested to make their suggestions on Facebook and Twitter using: #HiPipoMusicAwards #HallofFame #SongName
Songs will be reviewed by qualified professionals from Uganda’s performing arts scene in the coming years before they are enshrined and commemorated. However, so far, the tracks that have been nominated for 2018’s Hall of Fame include:
