SA: Burna Boy’s FNB Stadium show postponed
Burna Boy’s concert at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, has been postponed.
According to Sunday World, the concert, which was set for 23 September, has been postponed until 16 December due to sound issues. A source from the planning team told the newspaper that Burna Boy had fired the South Africa-based sound team, resulting in the last-minute cancellation of the event.
“They had a problem with the company that offers them sound,” the source is quoted by the newspaper. “Burna Boy fired them on Monday night and they had to replace them with another company which does not have the required capacity to do the show.”
It also appears the show was facing attendance challenges, with suite tickets being discounted by 25% on various online platforms.
Meanwhile, Khanya PR and Media Solutions has announced its withdrawal from the concert, citing business interests and legal advice.
“We have, as an agency, elected to withdraw our services which have up to now included PR and social media management,” a statement reads. “We have, following consideration of our business interests and working through the necessary legal advice, come to the conclusion that it is in the best interest of all parties concerned that we cease our role in the event. We wish the organisers well in their efforts and journey towards the concert and their future projects.”
The concert would have formed part of the musician’s Africa tour in support of his widely successful new album I Told Them, marking the Grammy-winner’s return to South Africa after headlining DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival last year.
Burna Boy’s last few years have been characterised by a rigorous tour regimen that includes headlining stadium shows. In June, this run saw the Nigerian sell out the 60 000-capacity London Stadium in the UK.
