SA: Listen to M. Rumbi and Monifé’s single Warmth
South Africa-based Kenyan artist M. Rumbi and British R&B singer Monifé have released a new single titled ‘Warmth’, which is available for streaming and download on major digital streaming platforms.
Merging their distinct talents and musical perspectives, Monifé's soulful vocals intertwine effortlessly with M. Rumbi’s masterful production, resulting in this delightful R&B offering.
Characterised by soulful melodies and irresistible grooves, ‘Warmth’ envelops listeners in a world of familiarity and ease. The emotive lyrics resonate with a sense of comfort as the protagonist contemplates the allure of the present moment. The lyrics, paired with evocative imagery, plunge listeners into a world of genuine emotions and authentic experiences.
Its chorus stands as a poignant highlight, emphasising the warmth and familiarity shared between the individuals, hinting at a bond that transcends the limitations of time. As the narrative unfolds, the protagonist’s emotional journey intensifies, expressed through phrases like ‘you surprised me’ and ‘made me lose my head’. These recurring lines underline a profound yearning to extend their fleeting connection, hinting at the possibility of a future beyond friendship.
“’Warmth’ to me represents that feeling you get when you’re completely comfortable and in your own bubble with someone,” Monifé said. “I love the lyrics themselves because they go full circle. It’s acknowledging you can’t stay in that bubble forever but staying as long as possible anyway.”
“The song captures a feeling, a moment. It’s a beautiful mix of emotions,” M. Rumbi said. “The lyrics make me think about being lost in a moment of bliss that feels close and relatable with someone – meeting someone you feel you’ve always known, and the ever-present tugging that the night must end. Working with Monifé was pleasant and refreshing.”
Monifé, meaning ‘I have love’ in Yoruba, is a British-born Vincentian-Nigerian artist raised in East London. The R&B singer and songwriter released her debut track ‘Unreachable’, a smooth and seductive ‘old-school-esque’ single, in 2019. With the likes of SZA, H.E.R., India Arie and Brent Faiyaz as her influences, Monifé has since been working on creating her own sound.
M. Rumbi, meanwhile, is Kenyan artist, songwriter, and producer based in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Drawing inspiration from diverse compositions, he continually pushes creative boundaries. He has gained recognition with features on popular Spotify editorial playlists such as ALTER-native and Borderless with his singles ‘More’ and ‘Less’.
