Open call: Audio masterclass in Nairobi
Upcoming East African sound engineers are invited to participate in a masterclass that will take place at the Baptist Church in Westlands, Nairobi, from 18 to 21 October 2023.
The initiative, titled Advancing Audio Masterclass Workshop and Concert 2023, is the brainchild of US-based Kenyan-Antiguan audio engineer Byron Belle.
The masterclass, which will feature a mix of theoretical and practical sessions, will be led by a team of sound engineers with extensive experience in the industry.
The masterclass seeks to support sound engineers who are new to the game to enhance their skills with the main focus being to improve the quality of sound at live events. It will also provide them an opportunity to interact and network with fellow participants and guest experts, gaining industry insights and hear about experiences from other regions.
On the final day of the workshop, a live concert will be held to allow participants to showcase their newly acquired skills.
The masterclass will focus on the foundations of sound engineering:
- Front-of-house and monitor sound engineering.
- Systems engineering and wireless technology.
- Advanced mixing and lighting integration.
- Broadcast and streaming engineering.
Belle is a creative professional and audio engineer with over 15 years’ experience. He has worked in the live production and events space with many companies such as Microsoft, Amazon and Disney, as well as with artists like Chris Brown, Eve, Gladys Knight, Phil Vassar, and many more.
Belle will be joined by American sound professionals Chris Pou (systems and front of house engineer), Shanon Austin (speaker and audio engineer), Brandon Thompson (systems integrator and IT specialist) and Shelton Morgan (front of house engineer and live stream engineer).
“By providing a platform for continuous professional development, networking and collaboration, this masterclass strives to contribute to the growth and advancement of the audio industry in Kenya and the region,” the organisers said. “This training will directly impact the quality of sound production in live events, concerts and broadcasting, raising the overall standard of audio excellence in Kenya and the region.”
Tickets to the masterclass are available here until 15 October. There are special offers for groups of five to 10 people.
