Open call: Disneyland vocalist auditions in South Africa

Hong Kong Disneyland is looking for the following roles:

Festival of the Lion King

• Simba – Male, youthful African prince destined to become king. Moves well. Pop tenor.
• Scar – Male, African evil uncle to Simba. Menacing presence. Baritone.
• Nala – Female, beautiful African princess. Moves well. Pop soprano.
• Storyteller – Female, African host who tells the story of The Lion King. Soulful pop alto.

Audition details

Durban

• Date: 25 October.
• Venue: KZN Music House, CCIFSA offices at 2 Derby Str, Greyville, Durban.
• Time: 10am.

Johannesburg

• Date: 28 October 2023.
• Venue: Baseline at 10 Henry Nxumalo Str, Newtown, Johannesburg.
• Time: 10am.

Auditionees must prepare the following:

• Two contrasting 16-bar vocal selections of choice with sheet music accompaniment.
• Select songs that compliment their range and vocal abilities and with which they have a connection.
• Called-back candidates may learn a movement combination.
• A potential call-back will be conducted on the next day.

Note: Performers must be at least 18 years of age and willing to relocate to Hong Kong for the duration of their contract. The performer must have a valid passport (with more than six months until expiry). Six-month contracts begin at the end of February/April 2024, with an opportunity to audition to renew.
