Open call: Marahaba Jazz Day 2024 in Burundi
Marahaba Music Expo in Burundi is inviting artists to perform at the 2024 Marahaba Jazz Day in Bujumbura from 29 to 30 April.
The call is open to artists from Burundi and around the world who are interested in sharing and exchanging musical experiences as well as building long-lasting relationships that will open more avenues for growth and success.
To apply, send your bio and a link of your live performance – in video or MP3 format – to info@marahabafestival.com.
The deadline for application is 28 February and selected artists will be announced on 10 March.
Marahaba Music Expo will cover the costs of hotel, food and local transport during the festival and performance fees for all selected artists. However, the organisation will not pay international travel and visa fees for artists from outside Burundi.
This year, the event will also include a sound engineering workshop focusing on female music technicians.
Marahaba Jazz Day was started by Marahaba Music Expo in 2020 to provide opportunities for Burundian jazz artists to play, meet and interact with the fans of the genre, both from home and around the world. The organisation has been promoting the growth of music in Burundi at its Marahaba Arts Center where young people are taught to play musical instruments.
Last December, Marahaba Music Expo director Shabani Ramadhani was recognised by UNESCO and the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz for organising and streaming worldwide the International Jazz Day 2023 celebrations in Burundi.
