Open call: Ghana Music Awards Unsung category
Charterhouse Ghana, the organiser of the Ghana Music Awards (GMAs), is inviting nominations for the Unsung category ahead of the 2024 edition.
Unsung is a competition crafted for emerging artists, offering the victorious participant a performance slot at the main ceremony.
The general public can power their preferred artist by posting a picture of the artist across social media with the hashtag #25thGMAUNSUNG.
The deadline for nominations is 29 February.
Previous winners of the contest include DSL, who won the accolade last year, Gambo, Nanky, Teflon Flexx, Kelvyn Boy and Adomaa.
This year marks the 25th edition of the annual event, which recognises outstanding artistic accomplishments in the country’s music industry and across the continent in various genres including highlife, hiplife, Afropop and traditional music.
Meanwhile, submissions are ongoing in all other categories at awards, with only works published between 1 January and 31 December 2023 eligible. All submissions must be made online, and interested artists or their representatives can complete entry forms here before 29 February.
At last year’s awards, Black Sherif swept the awards for Best Hip Hop Song, Collaboration of the Year, Best Music Video, Most Popular Song of the Year and Artist of the Year, making him the night’s biggest winner.
