Open call: Byta-Marshall Digital Launch Academy
Registrations are ongoing for the latest edition of Byta and Marshall’s Digital Launch Academy, a virtual full-day seminar slated for Thursday 22 February.
The seminar welcomes artists, creators and individuals already working or aspiring to work in any discipline or location within the music ecosystem.
The course comprises four individual sessions focused on releasing and launching music in the digital age. Covering aspects from pre-release hygiene and metadata to social media management and promotional strategies, these sessions aim to equip tomorrow’s artists and industry leaders with the tools required to infuse life, organisation and impact into their release campaigns.
- Pre-release: Presented by Byta founder & CEO Marc Brown, this session offers insights on audio file metadata (and why it matters for discoverability and getting paid and played), pre-release ‘hygiene’, music sharing, audio quality and more, as well as how this relates to music creation and sharing with the wider music industry.
- Post-release: Presented by Marshall Live Agency’s Natasha Arciniega, this session will explore how artists can leverage promotion, PR, marketing, streaming optimisation and live touring as part of their release campaigns – from playlist pitching and the importance of harnessing a streaming audience, to booking live shows locally and internationally.
- Digital Best Practices: This session dives further into the weeds of the pre-release process, equipping with tools and knowledge around digital best practices when preparing music, and following release. It promises insights on file formats including lossy vs lossless, metadata’s relationship with different file formats, audio security and why it matters to control your narrative, music sharing in practice and much more.
- Social Media Management: Run by Marshall Amplification’s social media executive Ben Walker, this session is a guide on how artists can keep their online presence consistent to maintain and increase fan engagement. Participants will be taken through key strategies for short-form vs long-form content, and using social media to gain new fans and nurture existing fans.
Collectively, four sessions offer the knowledge to propel a music career forward, with each session exploring distinct issues that individuals should contemplate when preparing to launch their music into the world. The day will also conclude with an opportunity to network with fellow participants and instructors.
Additionally, there will be a Q&A session with attendees and instructors.
“The digital era has made it incredibly easy to record and release music. With proper planning and better organisation, you stand a better chance of achieving success. The Digital Launch Academy is designed to help,” Byta said.
