SA: Basadi in Music Awards announce 2024 dates
The third edition of Basadi in Music Awards (BIMAs) will be held at Joburg Theatre in South Africa on 10 August.
Details regarding nominations and voting will be announced soon.
Founded in 2022, BIMAs are a beacon of recognition and empowerment, celebrating the phenomenal achievements of women in all facets of the music industry. From singers and rappers who grace the stage to the skilled DJs, composers, producers and creative masterminds behind the scenes, BIMAs elevate and showcase the powerful women shaping the industry’s soundscape.
This year’s edition will run under the theme Girl in the Mirror - Our Re.flexion, which is designed to carry a message of self-discovery and healing. According to the organisers, the number three, often associated with optimism, creativity and growth, reflects the journey of BIMAs and the impact they have made over the past two years.
“The second Basadi in Music Awards was an incredible success, echoing women’s profound impact in music and entertainment,” BIMAs CEO Hloni Modise Matau said. “This year, we are embracing who we see in the mirror, standing tall in our excellence and freedom, and finding our voice. With the Girl in the Mirror - Our Re.flexion theme, we aim to raise awareness about mental health issues affecting women and encourage a journey of inner exploration.”
This year’s theme, the organisers said, was designed to embrace both strengths and vulnerabilities. The symbolic use of broken glass represents the transformation from a shattered object into a masterpiece, a testament to the resilience of the female spirit.
Joburg City Theatres CEO Xoliswa Nduneni Ngema said: “We at Joburg City Theatres are incredibly proud to host the Basadi in Music Awards once again. BIMA celebrates women’s exceptional talent and achievements in music, perfectly aligning with our mission to provide a platform for diverse voices and stories. This year’s theme is particularly inspiring, encouraging women to embrace their strength and vulnerability. We are excited to be a part of this powerful celebration.”
