Kenya: King Kerby unveils Saba (Deluxe) album
Kenyan hip hop artist King Kerby has unveiled Saba (The Deluxe), the second instalment of Saba album released last December.
A product of King Kerby’s stint in Cape Town, it features an additional seven tracks, which are available for streaming here. The project was produced, mixed and mastered by South African producers Zino D and LD Beats, who worked with Nasty C on his I Love It Here album.
Cuts such as ‘Deuce’ featuring South African rapper Ta Eish dropped earlier in February. This was followed by the silky ‘What You Want’ with Kenyan singer Rachel Kendi, which was accompanied by visuals shot and edited by the late Nairobi video director Tilu The Creator, aka The Retrogod. Other tracks include ‘Leeches’, ‘Niko Order’ and ‘At the Peak’.
“I’m excited to be able to finally share the whole vision for Saba, and create room for upcoming projects to show more growth,” King Kerby said. “We are creating and evolving into what our ideal sound, identity and global language is.”
He added: “The thought process for an upcoming live show is to transport people deeper into the Saba realm. A space of perfect imperfection and realness rather than fabricated aesthetic that lacks human depth, substance, warmth and compassion,” he added.
Hailed for his unique approach to music making, King Kerby has become a poster boy for Nairobi's vibrant indie music scene. He uses music as a medium to share insights into his life. A blend of thought-provoking wordplay and intuitive songwriting, his compositions are testament to a pursuit of authenticity and creativity.
Apart from deejaying and production, King Kerby has also delved into visual storytelling, with the visuals for Saba serving as his most recent canvas.
