African acts triumph at BET Awards 2024
Established in 2001, the awards celebrate black talent in music, film, sports and philanthropy. This year’s nominees were picked by the BET Voting Academy, which includes industry experts from music, media, sports journalism and the creative arts.
Behind the global hit ‘Water’, South Africa’s Tyla took home two trophies: Best New Artist and Best International Act, while fellow South African act Makhadzi won the award for Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act.
Nigeria’s Tems scored the Dr Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for her single ‘Me & U’. Meanwhile, the US rapper Killer Mike won the Best Album category for his album Michael, while R&B vet Usher received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
