Uganda's Fik Fameica named tablet ambassador
UK-based company Development Channel has named Ugandan rapper Fik Fameika as the brand ambassador of its latest computer tablet, No Dropout.
The development was made public last week during the company’s official launch in Uganda at Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala.
Development Channel chairperson Charles Lambert said the No Dropout tablet was part of the company’s Economic War initiative, which used simple technological innovations to improve the lives of Africans.
“We are going to compete in 25 strategic areas such as mobile devices, infrastructure and food,” he said. “We have 25 well-crafted companies under the Development Channel conglomerate that deal in education, loans, car hire, agriculture, banking and insurance, security, and information and computer technology (ICT) in order to fight poverty in Africa.”
In his new role, Fik Fameika will for the next three months use his social media influence to promote the new device on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as well as share and comment on the company’s posts.
“I feel proud to be a part of the Development Channel family,” he told Music In Africa. ”Their products are innovative, performance-driven and affordable, especially for those who are low on cash.”
The rapper said the tablet would come in handy with the increasing number of Internet users in Uganda, particularly young people.
“My fan base is mostly made up of young people because they love hip hop. They can afford to buy the tablet because the company has a plan that allows customers to pay in instalments,” he said.
The company will also be working with TV presenters Sheila Gashumba and Douglas Lwanga as well as comedian Patrick Salvador. The three are expected to talk about the company’s products and services when they appear on TV.
