Open call: Data analyst for quantitative study
The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF), a non-profit organisation operating in the field of African music, seeks to contract an experienced data analyst for a quantitative study focusing on Mozambique’s music and audio-visual (AV) industries. Over a five-month period, the MIAF will conduct a robust quantitative analysis of the music and AV industries in Mozambique, and develop and implement a series of capacity-building workshops on selected topics.

- Where: Remotely with an arrangement on a few monthly office days (Johannesburg)
- Duration: Five (5) months
- Reporting to: Executive director/principal investigator
Key deliverables
- Develop a strong understanding of the key goals of the project, with a view to produce results that are relevant and beneficial to the target audience.
- Identify and set up a suitable software system for data entry and analysis.
- Attend and actively participate in project team workshops.
- Collate all the data from the survey results (up to 600 interviews).
- Support the creation and testing of questionnaires and other tools before deployment.
- Monitor data entry and progress weekly and report any possible challenges.
- Establish and carefully implement appropriate data analysis methodologies.
- Perform rigorous data analysis. This will largely be quantitative analysis but there will also be responses requiring qualitative analysis.
- Write and develop a primary report covering each finding.
- Contribute to the design and production of the final report, e.g. proposing the layout, illustrations and infographics to accompany the final report.
- Provide ongoing support to the data-collection progress.
- Prepare timely reports for management and partners.
- Perform rigorous quality control processes to ensure the accuracy of produced work.
- Perform other roles as required.
Skills and requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years’ professional data analysis experience.
- Minimum five years’ professional report writing experience. For clarity: the successful candidate should be able to produce an error-free report without much assistance from the MIAF.
- Language requirements: English is a must. Portuguese will be a big advantage since the data is collected in Portuguese.
- Strong experience in the creative/arts sector and knowledge of the music and audio-visual sector will be an advantage.
- Proven track record in a similar role.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Flexibility and ability to manage timetable and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
