UMG renews licensing deal with Tuned Global
Universal Music Group (UMG) has renewed its global licensing agreement with business-to-business music and streaming technology provider Tuned Global for its recorded music catalogue.
The move is expected to give Tuned Global clients integrated access to UMG’s recorded music, offering both technological expertise and licensing support, and allowing them to target specific genres such as Afrobeats, pop, or jazz.
Additionally, the partnership will facilitate the accurate administration of usage reports and royalties.
“This partnership is designed to provide a consolidated route to market for promising music projects and companies who reach out to Tuned Global, wanting to access UMG’s recorded music catalogue, but unsure who to reach out to,” Tuned Global’s managing director, Con Raso, said “Using this agreement, they can get their project off the ground through one point of contact, Tuned Global. We believe this will turn more exciting ideas in music into realities.”
UMG SVP, digital strategy and business development, James Healy, added that his outfit was “excited about the opportunities that will be created by this new global licensing agreement. In expanding our partnership with Tuned Global, we are pleased to now integrate the licensing of UMG’s catalogue of recorded music into Tuned Global’s suite of technological solutions. This new way of working will help to enable ideas to be enhanced by UMG repertoire all over the world.”
The agreement extends an established partnership between the two companies, with Tuned Global utilising its direct content feed from UMG and cloud-based infrastructure to provide music to a global audience. This includes clients, DSPs, and industries like fitness, gaming, and medtech.
Last month, UMG, which completed a major investment in Nigerian Afrobeats label Mavin Global in February, announced an expanded global, multi-year partnership with Meta to boost creative and commercial opportunities for UMG artists and Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) songwriters across Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Horizon, Threads, and WhatsApp. The move forms part of a shared commitment to “protect human creators and artistry, including ensuring that artists and songwriters are compensated fairly.”
Tuned Global, meanwhile, is forging new partnerships across Africa, including with Nigerian music streaming app Jumamo and expanding its collaboration with Ethiopian streamer Sewasew by adding the UMG catalogue and supporting a new religious streaming service, joining established partners such as Tieme Music (Ghana) and WAW Musik (Ivory Coast).
