SA: Tresor secures full ownership of music catalogue
South Africa-based Congolese musician Tresor has made a major move in his career by acquiring the masters to his first two albums, VII and The Beautiful Madness, from Vth Season for an undisclosed sum.
The landmark deal, executed through his independent company, Jacquel Entertainment Group, marks a significant milestone for Tresor, giving him full ownership of his entire catalogue.
The acquisition marks a crucial moment in Tresor’s journey as an independent artist. Having risen from humble beginnings in the Democratic Republic of Congo to global stardom, he continues to champion his creative freedom and business acumen.
“As an independent artist, taking full ownership of my music has always been a key priority for me,” Tresor said. “Acquiring the masters for my early work allows me to fully control my catalogue, ensuring that my legacy is protected and my creative journey remains mine to navigate.”
Tresor expressed gratitude to Vth Season’s co-founders, Raphael Benza and Ninel Musson, for their partnership during the creation of VII and The Beautiful Madness. “Together, we made magic,” he said.
Raphael Benza, A&R and record executive at Vth Season, reflected on their collaboration, saying, “We’re proud of the journey we had with Tresor and even prouder to see him in a position to acquire the masters and continue building his legacy. We will continue to play a supportive and strategic role in Tresor’s career as he embarks on this exciting new chapter.”
Vth Season will now take on an advisory and marketing role for special projects under Jacquel Entertainment Group.
Tresor’s career has been nothing short of remarkable. From his early days in the DRC to becoming one of Africa’s most sought-after talents, his music has resonated with fans worldwide. His collaborations with international stars like Drake and Ed Sheeran, as well as contributions to high-profile projects such as Metallica’s The Metallica Blacklist album, have solidified his status as a global force.
With a catalogue of critically acclaimed albums and hit singles, Tresor’s independence has allowed him to explore new creative avenues while retaining full ownership of his work. Jacquel Entertainment Group, founded to oversee his creative and business ventures, has been instrumental in this acquisition, underscoring Tresor’s commitment to building his legacy on his own terms.
