Open call: Research coordinator in Senegal
The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF), a non-profit organisation operating in the African music sector, seeks an experienced research coordinator for a quantitative study focusing on Senegal’s creative industries.
Over a set period, the MIAF will conduct a robust quantitative analysis of three select sectors, namely music, audio-visual (AV) and fashion. As part of the project, the MIAF will also implement a series of capacity-building workshops on selected topics.
We seek an experienced, mature individual with strong experience in research, as well as excellent coordination skills. The successful candidate will be based in Dakar.
Key responsibilities
- Review and develop a strong understanding of the research methodology and operational manual.
- Work with management to manage the day-to-day activities of the study, including problem-solving, communication and protocol management.
- Assist in the creation and testing of research tools, including questionnaires and manuals.
- Coordinate the selection of participants and the screening process to ensure that the selected creators meet the requirements of the study.
- Lead in the initial mapping of active creators in Senegal’s music, AV and fashion industries.
- Supervise a team of six local field researchers.
- Assume overall responsibility for the data collection and related processes.
- Work closely with subcontractors to ensure the timely execution of all deliverables.
- Assist in onboarding and training field researchers and other research resources.
- Efficiently communicate study protocols with all field researchers involved in the study.
- Prepare and review documents for translation (between English and French).
- Monitor field researchers and ensure that all interviews are conducted in accordance with the agreed terms of reference. This involves implementing strict control systems to ensure the accuracy of the data collected.
- Supervise and provide optimal support to field researchers.
- Collect documents throughout the study.
- Provide periodic reports to management and the client.
- Work with the team on strategies to increase participation.
- Support the entry of data onto a digital database.
- Maintain study timelines.
- Perform other roles as needed.
Skills and requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of five years’ related experience.
- Strong experience in research.
- A good understanding and experience in the cultural sector in Senegal.
- Strong knowledge of the music, AV and fashion industries.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to travel (occasional).
