Tanzania: Lady Jaydee signs distribution deal with UMG East Africa
Veteran Tanzanian singer Lady Jaydee has signed a distribution deal with Universal Music Group East Africa (UMG EA).
The deal coincides with Lady Jaydee celebrating 25 years in the music industry and comes a month after her induction into Tanzania’s ‘Hall of Fame’ at the Bongo Flava Honors for her remarkable contribution to the growth of music in the East African country.
Born Judith Mbibo in 1979, Lady Jaydee’s music journey began in the 1990s. She started off as a rapper and later found a new path where her vocals came to use. Her legacy has been built on creating incredible, top-charting and sometimes female empowerment offerings that have seen her receive a lot of following in Tanzania, Kenya, and other countries in the East African region.
With nine studio albums and over 30 local and international awards under her name, Lady Jaydee has been a revolutionary in refining the bongo flava genre.
Apart from performing in Tanzania, across Africa and around the world, she has participated in reality TV shows such as The Voice Africa as a judge.
The deal reflects UMG EA’s growing roster in East Africa. With its growing roster of talented East African artists, UMG EA is opening up new possibilities in the region and exporting local talent to the world.
In October, UMG EA signed Kenyan artist and producer Vic West. Widely regarded as one of the key innovators driving the new wave of Kenyan music, Vic West’s signature productions have dominated airwaves across the East African nation and beyond. His unique blend of African rhythms and modern production has resulted in multiple chart-topping hits and collaborations with leading Kenyan artists.
In August, the company also announced the signing of Kenyan singer, songwriter, and producer Njerae. The deal is expected to open new opportunities for the artist, with Njerae pointing out that the agreement would “provide resources and expertise that will help me create much better music and grow my fan base.”
